COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PLUG SET, RADIATOR TEST
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description (CID) as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-P-45570B (AL).
1. ABSTRACT.
The description covers one adjustable compression-type motor vehicle radiator test plug set for plugging the radiator hose inlet(s) and outlet(s) during tests and repairs.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
The test plug set shall have the capability of sealing various sizes of inlet and outlet automobile radiator ports. The test plug itself shall be capable of fitting inside and blocking the internal diameters (ID) of the port passages. The test plug set shall consist of the following quantities and sizes of plugs:
2 plugs able to fit inside and block a port having an ID of 0.87 inch
2 plugs able to fit inside and block a port having an ID of 1.00 inch
2 plugs able to fit inside and block a port having an ID of 1.12 inch
4 plugs able to fit inside and block a port having an ID of 1.50 inch
2 plugs able to fit inside and block a port having an ID of 1.75 inch
2 plugs able to fit inside and block a port having an ID of 2.00 inch
2 plugs able to fit inside and block a port having an ID of 2.50 inch
The sealing element portion of each plug shall be capable of recovering from stress periods of compression as experienced during radiator testing, without visual evidence of compression set or aging. All metal parts of the plug set shall be made of brass, stainless steel, bronze or copper: Each radiator plug, when installed for testing, shall be capable of holding 20 pound-force per square inch gage (psig) within the radiator being tested for a period of one (1) minute without leakage.
Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, provided they fall within specified tolerances using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of FED-STD-376, and all other requirements of this commercial item description are met.
