The General Services Administration has authorized use of this commercial item description in preference of Federal Specification GG-G-91D.
This Commercial Item Description covers new commercial heavy-duty type general service tire pressure gages.
Salient Characteristics. The gages shall be new, general service, dual-chuck foot to fit standard (0.302-32) threads used on tire valves and be of heavy-duty construction throughout to withstand rough usage. The barrel shall be so constructed as to fully enclose and shield the internal working mechanism. The inside of the barrel shall be corrosion resistant or treated to prevent corrosion along its entire length. The indicator bar shall be calibrated with marked graduations on all facer sides. The graduation marks shall be stamped, etched, or otherwise set to a width and depth to provide a premanency at least equal to the life of the gage. The numerals indicating the graduation increment shall be a minimum of 0.0625 inch in height. Both graduations and numerals shall be clear and well defined to facilitate reading of the gage under normal service conditions. Two opposite sides of the indicator bar shall be marked in the inch pound units of pounds per square inch (psi) and the alternate two sides shall be marked in the International System of Units (S1) in accordance with ASTME 380. The S1 metric marking shall be in units of kilopascal (kPa). The inch pound marking shall be graduated in 2 psi increments with a numeric marking every 10 psi, reading from 10 to 160 psig minimum range. The S1 marking shall be graduated in 20 kPa increments with a numeric marking every 100 kPa minimum range. The inch pound marking and the S1 marking shall be of different colors for ease of identification. Overall length of gage shall not be less than 11 inches. The gage shall have a standard bore dual-chuck foot and provisions for hanging up the gage. Gage shall be similar in design to figure 1.
Accuracy of the gage at 70°F, plus or minus 5°F (room temperature) shall be within plus or minus:
1.5 psi at 30 psig.
1.5 psi at 50 psig
2 psi at 75 psig
3 psi at 120 psig
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Regulatory Requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent possible.
