COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
GUARD, SAFETY, TIRE INFLATION
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item
Description.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This Commercial Item Description (CID) is for a tire safety cage used for inflating
large truck and aircraft tires. The cage is limited in use to tires with a pressure rating of 232 psi.
The cage features is in compliance with AFOSH 91-20.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Inflation Cage. The tire inflation cage shall be constructed of high tensile steel or equivalent
material and shall be welded throughout. Construction of the inflation cage shall be such that it
will be able to retain the blast and debris generated by tires during a tire explosion. The tire cage
must have roll-out and roll-in capability of the tire. The tire cage shall be provided with a jet
bead seater.
2.2 Pressure Regulator. A pressure regulator that can handle an inlet of 300 psi of pressure and
outlet of 20 psi shall be provided with the unit.
2.3 Inflator. The inflator shall be capable of inflating, deflating and inflating to a preset
pressure. The inflation pressure setting that is being applied to the tire shall be capable of being
changed.
