COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
Gage, Tire Pressure, Air and Liquid Type
The General Services Administration has authorized use of this commercial item description in preference of Federal Specification GG-G-91D.
This commercial item description covers new commercial air and liquid type tire pressure gages.
SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS: The gages shall be new air and liquid type, having a standard bore single chuck foot to fit standard (0.302-32) threads used on tire valves. The barrel shall be so constructed as to fully enclose and shield the internal working mechanism protecting it against mud, sand, dust, brine, antifreeze solutions, and other harmful material. The inside of the barrel shall be corrosion resistant or treated to prevent corrosion along its entire length. The indicator bar shall be not less than .160 inch square and be attached to the internal mechanism in such a manner as to facilitate flushing and oiling of the Integral mechanism by pump action of the indicator bar. A hole shall be provided in the outer end of the barrel to permit injection and ejection of a liquid cleaner and light oil. The indicator bar shall be calibrated with marked graduations on all four sides. The graduation marks shall be stamped, etched, or otherwise set to a width and depth to provide a permanency at least equal to the life of the gage. The numerals indicating the graduation increments shall be a minimum of 0.0625 inch in height. Both graduations and numerals shall be clear and well defined to facilitate reading of the gage under normal service conditions. Two opposite sides of the indicator bar shall be marked in the inch-pound units of pounds per square inch (PSI) and the alternate two sides shall be marked in the International System of Units (S1) in accordance with ASTM E 380. The S1 metric marking shall be in units of kilopascal (kPa). The inch-pound marking shall be graduated in 2 PSI increments with a numeric marking every 10 PSI, reading from 10 to 45 psig minimum range. The S1 marking shall be graduated In 20 kPa increments with a numeric marking every even 100 kPa reading from 80 to 320 kPa minimum range. The inch-pound marking and the S1 marking shall be different colors for ease of identification. Gage shall be similar in design to the figure.
